The HGTC Pantry serves all current HGTC students, faculty, and staff. According to a survey conducted by Phi Theta Kappa in 2019 of HGTC students, it was determined that:
- 56% of First-Generation Students Are Food Insecure
- 50% of students surveyed don’t know where to go if they need assistance
- 70% of students surveyed believe that food security is a right
The HGTC Pantry is working to meet those needs identified to help support each other and promote educational success. We will need help in continuing to keep the pantry stocked at each campus! If you or someone you know are wanting to donate, please contact the pantry location where you would like to donate for the list of current items in demand or see the attached donation list. The hours of operation for each location are below:
Grand Strand Pantry - Building 200, Room 141A
Monday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursdays 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Wednesdays 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Conway Pantry - Building 1100, Admissions & Advising Suite
Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

HGTC Pantry FAQs
The HGTC pantry is available to all current students, faculty, and staff. When someone comes to the pantry, they will need their current HGTC Identification Card with the current academic year sticker on the back (19-20). If you do not have a current HGTC Identification Card and/or sticker on the back, please go to Tech Central at any campus to get this completed prior to utilizing the pantry.
To ensure we have enough in stock each week for everyone, we ask that use of the pantry is limited to once a week. We have a system in place of how much of each item you can get based on Low Country Food Bank recommendations.
We ask you to fill out a simple survey each time you visit to help us collect data. This data will be used to help us know how many people are utilizing the pantry at each location, your age, household size, and other basic information to help us ensure the continued need for the pantry at HGTC.
Due to limited space and current items in need at each campus, please contact one of the HGTC Pantry locations below before donating; however, we appreciate ANYTHING on the list you are willing to donate.

- Low sodium soups & stews
- Canned meats, tuna, salmon, chicken
- Low sugar cereal
- Canned fruits & low sodium vegetables

- Non-stick cooking spray
- Cooking oils
- Single-serving meals
- Bottled water
- Shelf-stable milk
- Baby food jarred
Personal Hygiene Items: Adult and Children
- Body wash
- Bar soap
- Toilet paper (Individually wrapped)
- Disposable razors
* Regular or Travel size items are welcome
The following items cannot be accepted as donations:
- Expired items
- Opened items
- Glass items
- Perishable or Refrigerated items: i.e. fresh fruits or vegetables, meat, fish, milk, butter
- Dented or rusted cans
- Bulk food
- Baby formula
- Sugar-sweetened drinks
- Homemade foods
- Bread of any kind
Yes! You can donate through the HGTC Foundation. Scroll down to Foundation Funds and click on the HGTC Pantry Donate button.
If you provide a monetary donation through the link above you will receive a receipt. If you donate goods at one of the campuses and you would like a receipt, you will need to request a receipt at drop-off. You will be provided with a generic receipt at that time. The donor will be responsible for valuing the donated items and keep in mind per the IRS it is important not to abuse or overvalue items in the event that you are audited.
