Policies

When you utilize your SSTC, you agree to our policies and procedures while enjoying our free academic assistance and online academic assistance at HGTC:

• Students are not permitted to schedule more than 2 hours per tutor per week. The SSTC encourages students to meet with a variety of tutors to avoid burnout and to allow others the opportunity to tutor.
• Students are not permitted to use more than a total of 3 hours in-person tutoring per week. For online tutoring limits, contact the SSTC for more information. We strive to ensure that tutoring remains accessible to all students. A limit of 3 hours of tutoring per student allows us to accommodate the needs of a larger student community. Thank you for understanding our commitment to providing support for all. 
• Students are prohibited from scheduling two consecutive hours of tutoring with one tutor unless approved by the SSTC. Scheduling two separate appointments throughout the week allows you to be able to effectively process any new information, process your last tutoring session goals and accomplishments, and practice on your own between each session.
• Recurring weekly tutoring for the semester is available for most tutoring subjects. Students are limited to one weekly session per class. Additional tutoring appointments may be made as individual sessions.
• Students are expected to follow college policies and procedures regarding the use of the SSTC and Internet.

• Please note: Our tutoring services and availability vary by campus location. As such, we ask all students who have scheduled an appointment to provide NO LESS than 2 hours of cancellation notice or their visit will be counted as an absence. When students miss a scheduled appointment or cancel on short notice, this prohibits other students from scheduling during this time and will be constituted as an absence.  
• Furthermore, if a student accrues 2 or more absences, that student will be restricted from scheduling a tutoring session for 30 days from the day of the last absence. Please Note: Students who receive a 30-day scheduling restriction may still engage Pear Deck, a 24/7 Tutoring service available to HGTC students via the Student Resources card in MyHGTC.
