Upward Bound LogoUpward Bound

A federally-funded program designed to provide academic support and cultural opportunities to students who are preparing for college by offering skills that will help them succeed in and graduate from high school and not only pursue higher education, but complete an undergraduate course of study.

The mission of HGTC Upward Bound is to embrace diversity and provide a high quality, student-centered academic and cultural program that provides necessary information and tools for a competitive edge in college readiness at no cost to the participant.

Upward Bound began in this area in 2003 and we are ecstatic to report that our Upward Bound grant has been refunded until 2027!

Thank you to our students, families, alumni, partnering schools and community. We are so happy to be able to continue to serve Loris High School and Green Sea Floyds High School in Horry County, and Carvers Bay High School in Georgetown County. A special thank you to HGTC for supporting since 2003!

Upward Bound is a federally funded program through the Department of Education. It emerged out of the Economic Opportunity Act (EOA) of 1964, which was a response to the war on poverty, first introduced by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
