More than 400 middle school students from across Horry County explored future college and career pathways during the third annual Teal & Tech Experience hosted by Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) and Coastal Carolina University (CCU) on March 25.

The daylong event began in Wheelwright Auditorium on CCU’s campus, where students were welcomed by college leaders and introduced to the wide range of academic and career opportunities available through both institutions.

Students from Loris Middle School, Myrtle Beach Middle School, and Whittemore Park Middle School participated in interactive campus tours, hands-on program demonstrations, and engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and connect their interests to real-world careers.

Throughout the day, students explored high-demand fields including healthcare, advanced manufacturing, information technology, culinary arts, and marine technology. Faculty, staff, and student ambassadors from both HGTC and CCU provided guidance and shared insights into college life, academic pathways, and workforce opportunities across the region.

“This experience is about helping students see what is possible for their future,” said Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore, president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College. “By introducing them to college campuses and career pathways at an early age, we are helping them connect their interests to meaningful opportunities and build confidence in their next steps.”

The Teal & Tech Experience reflects the shared commitment of HGTC and CCU to expand access to higher education, strengthen the local workforce pipeline, and support student success across Horry and Georgetown counties.

Events like Teal & Tech play a critical role in early college awareness by providing students with exposure to educational opportunities and career options before they enter high school. By engaging students early, both institutions aim to increase college readiness and encourage long-term academic and career planning.
