HGTC Celebrates Student and Employee Talent at Third Annual “Chomp’s Got Talent” Competition

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) hosted its third annual “Chomp’s Got Talent” competition on Thursday, March 26, bringing together students and employees for an evening of entertainment, creativity, and campus pride.

The event, organized by HGTC’s Office of Student Engagement, featured 12 performances representing a wide range of talents, including singing, stand-up comedy, dance, and spoken word poetry. The competition showcased the diverse abilities of the College community while fostering connection and engagement across campus.

Top honors were awarded to three standout performers:

  • First Place ($500 Visa gift card and trophy): Lindsay “Micci” Soto, who performed “Creep” by Radiohead
  • Second Place ($250 Visa gift card and trophy): Kelis Herriot, who performed “Proud Mary” by Ike & Tina Turner
  • Third Place ($100 Visa gift card and trophy): Luis Torres-Badillo, who performed “No Survivors” by Jeremy Camp

“We are incredibly proud of our students and employees who shared their talents and made this event such a success,” said Rebecca Kaneiwa, director of student engagement at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. “Chomp’s Got Talent continues to grow as a signature event that celebrates creativity, builds community, and provides a platform for self-expression.”

HGTC President Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore also recognized the impact of the event on campus life.

“As President of HGTC, I am proud to see the creativity and talent of our students and employees on full display,” Fore said. “Chomp’s Got Talent reflects the energy and spirit of our campus community and highlights the importance of student engagement in the college experience.”

Chomp’s Got Talent is part of HGTC’s ongoing commitment to providing a vibrant campus environment that supports student success both inside and outside the classroom.
