HGTC Dental Student Awarded Scholarship

Allisha HemingwayHorry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce that Allisha Hemingway, an HGTC dental student, received the first scholarship of 2022 presented by BrownGirlRDH. Each year, BrownGirlRDH awards deserving students in need of scholarships to help bridge the gap in minority hygienist in dentistry. Allisha was awarded the Clinical Board Fee Scholarship sponsored by @dewlifemag.

Now in her second year at HGTC, Allisha is the Dental Hygiene Class Vice President for Class 2022. She has achieved President’s List status for the past three years at the College.

“Allisha thrives on interacting with her patients, displaying a true commitment to improving oral health, and providing outstanding dental care,” said Michelle Meeker, HGTC Program Director & Chair of Dental Sciences. “She has grown so much in this program. I know her future is bright and her practice settings unlimited as she progresses towards graduation from the dental hygiene program.”

We provide a community of support, mentorship, and comradery that students can lean on before, during, and after school. We aim to inspire, connect, and support our students and look forward to helping many, many more," said Maria Watson, RDH Scholarship Committee Representative.

BrownGirl, RDH is a nonprofit organization awards scholarships to any student in need, removing cultural and economic barriers to joining the dental hygiene workforce and establishing and promoting pathways to dental hygiene careers.

“HGTC is so proud of Allisha Hemingway and her the accomplishments thus far with the College. Her story is like many that attend HGTC. They are attending college, working, and caring for a family including children,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President.
