HGTC Golf & Sports Turf Student Lands Prestigious International Internship

Parker Stancil to work in Denmark, blog for TurfNet.

Parker Stancil

(CONWAY) May 3, 2018 – Horry-Georgetown Technical college golf and sports turf management student Parker Stancil has been selected as the 2018 TurfNet TOCA Media Intern and will spend his summer working at the Great Northern Golf Club in Kerteminde, Denmark. Only one student is selected each year to participate in this internship run by TurfNet, an online community for turf industry experts from around the country.

As part of the internship, Stancil will be a part of the regular grounds grew at Great Northern Golf Club and will write about his experience on TurfNet’s blog.  He’ll also travel to work the Scottish Open tournament. This is a rare opportunity for any sports turf student, particularly a freshman like Stancil.

“I am very grateful to be given this once-in-a-lifetime, career-shaping opportunity,” Stancil said. “I’m fortunate that I’ll be able to work on a world-class course with one of the best international crews, while also being able to broaden my horizons and explore another part of the world.”

Stancil is no stranger to working with high-caliber turf crews. He and his classmates have had the opportunity to work tournaments like the PGA Championship and the Players Championship at Sugarloaf. Students become part of the team every step of the way, which often requires waking up before dawn and working long days. But, for them, it’s worth it.

“The opportunities I’ve had to work tournaments as part of HGTC’s golf and sports turf program have been extremely valuable for my classmates and me,” said Stancil. “We get a first-hand look at what a career in the industry will be like, and we gain a hands-on learning experience unlike any other.”

You can follow Parker at his blog on TurfNet.
