HGTC Students and Employees Volunteer for Backpack Buddies

TUA Honor Society volunteers monthly to help children in need.

HGTC Students and Employees Volunteers(Conway) Feb. 5, 2018 – Volunteers from Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC), along with other community members, gathered at the Lowcountry Foodbank on Wednesday to fill bags with food for local children in need. The group was part of a monthly community service event organized by HGTC’s TUA Human Services Honor Society to benefit Backpack Buddies, a division of Help4Kids.

The Lowcountry Food Bank provides nonperishable food items, which are packed in bags and given to children at Kingston Elementary School that may not have enough food at home during the weekends.

TUA Honor Society will host four Backpack Buddies community service events this semester: February 28, March 21, and April 25. The group meets at 1:00 p.m. at the Lowcountry Food Bank located at 200 Broadway Street in Myrtle Beach. Members of the public are invited to participate. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes and be at least 18 years old.
