S.A.F.E. Response to Violence

The S.A.F.E. Response to Violence teaches you how to respond in a dangerous situation. These steps can be used in any order, but always ESCAPE first if possible!

SECURE: Lock or barricade the door to keep the intruder out.

ALERT: Warn the police and those around you.

FIGHT: After lockdown, you may have to fight. Think about how you could defend yourself using items such as books, staplers, and other objects. Goals are to distract, disorient, and disarm the aggressor. There is strength in numbers; dislodge the weapon from the aggressor if possible.

ESCAPE: S.A.F.E. can be used in any order, but ESCAPE first if possible!
