More than 400 Horry County Middle School Students to Explore College Pathways During Teal & Tech Experience 2026

(Conway, SC) 03/18/2026

More than 400 students from Horry County middle schools will explore college and career opportunities at Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College during the third annual Teal & Tech Experience on Wednesday, March 25.

The daylong event introduces middle school students to academic programs, career pathways and campus life through tours, interactive experiences and engagement with college students at both institutions. Students from Loris Middle School, Myrtle Beach Middle School and Whittemore Park Middle School will participate.

The program will begin with a welcome pep rally at 10 a.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium on the CCU campus. Throughout the day, students will explore facilities and academic programs at both CCU and HGTC while learning about educational pathways and career opportunities available after high school.

Student ambassadors from both institutions will serve as volunteer group leaders, guiding middle school students through the day’s activities and sharing insights about their college experiences.

“We are proud to partner with Horry-Georgetown Technical College to host the Teal & Tech Experience and introduce local students to the many educational opportunities available in our community,” said Dr. Gibbs Knotts, provost of Coastal Carolina University. “Programs like this help students begin thinking about their futures and the many pathways available to achieve their goals.”

Students will also enjoy lunch in Hicks Dining Hall before concluding the day with a group photo on the teal turf at Brooks Stadium. The students will be greeted on the field by institutional mascots, student-athletes and campus organizations.

“At Horry-Georgetown Technical College, we believe every student holds tremendous potential, and experiences like Teal & Tech help students begin to see what their future could look like,” said Dr. Lori Heafner, vice president for academics at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. “By introducing students to college campuses and career pathways early, we hope to spark curiosity and confidence as they begin planning for life after high school.”

The Teal & Tech Experience is a collaborative initiative between Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College designed to strengthen college awareness and expand educational pathways for students across Horry County.
