Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC), in partnership with Partnership Grand Strand, Horry County Schools and local business and industry partners, will host the third annual Build Something Amazing event Friday, Nov. 13, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the HGTC Grand Strand Campus.

Build Something Amazing is an interactive career and workforce development event designed to connect Horry County high school seniors with hands-on learning experiences, high-demand career pathways and local employers. More than 500 seniors whose post-graduation plans indicate an interest in skilled trades and workforce programs are expected to attend.

“Build Something Amazing gives students an opportunity to see firsthand the rewarding careers available right here in our community and the education and training that can help them get there,” said Dr. Melissa Batten, HGTC interim president. “By bringing our schools, College programs and industry partners together, we are helping students make connections between their interests, their education and their future careers while also supporting the workforce needs of our region.”

More than 35 trade-related businesses and industry partners are expected to participate in the expo-style event, offering interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities that allow students to experience different occupations while meeting professionals working in those fields.

HGTC programs will also showcase educational and training opportunities in areas including advanced manufacturing, construction, engineering, trades and workforce development, commercial driver’s license training, electrical lineworker training, diesel technology, automotive technology, golf and sports turf management and other career-focused programs.

The event has continued to grow since its inception. Last year, more than 500 students attended, with 35 businesses and 15 HGTC programs participating.

Local businesses and industry partners interested in participating in Build Something Amazing are encouraged to register by Oct. 30. Participating businesses are encouraged to provide interactive, hands-on experiences that introduce students to their industries, career opportunities and the skills used in their professions.

Businesses may register to participate through the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce at:
