HGTC President Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore Recognized as One of the Grand Strand’s 50
Most Influential
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) announced that President Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore has been named as one of the Grand Strand’s 50 Most Influential by B2B: The Grand Strand magazine.
Published by Integrated Media Publishing Inc., B2B: The Grand Strand launched in January 2024 as a regional business publication highlighting leadership, innovation, and community impact across the Grand Strand. The current edition recognizes business and civic leaders whose professional excellence and service continue to shape the region.
President Fore has devoted nearly five decades to higher education in South Carolina. A native of Ohio and West Virginia, she relocated to the Palmetto State in 1971 to begin her career in higher education. Her leadership reached a historic milestone in April 2017, when she was appointed the first female president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
Her dedication to academic excellence is reflected in her extensive educational background. In addition to an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from Coastal Carolina University, Fore holds a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction, a Master of Arts in economics, and a Master of Arts in educational administration from the University of South Carolina. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in social sciences from Fairmont State College.
Throughout her career at HGTC, Fore has served in multiple leadership and academic roles, including professor of economics, academic dean, and senior vice president of academic and student affairs. Her professional journey continues to inspire students, colleagues, and higher education leaders across South Carolina and beyond.
This recognition adds to a growing list of honors for Fore, including Chamber Woman of the Year, the City of Conway’s Excellence in Education Award, the Order of the Palmetto, and the South Carolina Association of Technical College Commissioners’ Chief Executive Officer of the Year.
“We are excited to see Dr. Marilyn ‘Murph’ Fore recognized as one of the Grand Strand’s 50 Most Influential,” said Nicole Hyman, HGTC chief public relations and communications officer. “This honor reflects not only her exceptional leadership in higher education but also her lasting contributions to our community.”
The 50 Most Influential honorees, including Fore, were recognized during an invitation-only reception on Jan. 30. The January editions of B2B: The Grand Strand, Charleston Business Magazine, Columbia Business Monthly, and Greenville Business Magazine will provide statewide recognition of the honorees and their service to the Grand Strand.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Fore on this well-deserved recognition,” Hyman said. “Her influence reaches far beyond the HGTC campus and continues to positively impact the entire region.”
