Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) culinary students recently returned from an immersive study abroad experience in Paris, France, where they trained at one of the world’s most prestigious culinary institutions and explored the heart of French cuisine.

Students from the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach (ICI) received hands-on instruction at Ecole Ritz-Escoffier, refining both classical and contemporary techniques under the guidance of expert chefs. The experience provided real-world training in one of the most respected culinary settings in the world.

“This transformative experience reflects our commitment to providing students with real-world, global learning opportunities that expand their skills, perspective and potential,” said Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore, president of HGTC. “Experiences like this not only enhance technical expertise but also inspire creativity, confidence and a deeper understanding of the global culinary industry.”

Throughout the program, students engaged in immersive culinary training while also experiencing the culture and history of Paris, including visits to iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum.

“This culinary journey provided students with an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of French cuisine while learning at the highest level,” said Joseph Bonaparte, executive director of the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach. “From the kitchens of the Ritz to some of the most celebrated restaurants in Paris, our students gained invaluable experience that will shape their future careers.”

In addition to their training, students explored Paris’ renowned food scene through visits to bakeries, markets and culinary shops, and experienced world-class dining, including meals at Michelin-starred restaurants, highlighted by a three-Michelin-star dining experience.

The experience concluded with advanced culinary instruction at the Ritz and a scenic boat tour along the Seine River, offering students an opportunity to reflect on the cultural and professional impact of the journey.

HGTC’s International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach is nationally recognized for excellence in culinary education and continues to provide students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for success in a competitive, global workforce.
