Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Melissa Batten as Interim President effective August 1, 2026. Dr. Batten brings extensive leadership experience and a strong commitment to student success, having served the College in multiple executive roles and most recently as Vice President for Student Affairs.

Dr. Batten has led key institutional initiatives that support student engagement, access, and completion, while maintaining a consistent focus on service, responsiveness, and operational effectiveness. Throughout her tenure, she has worked closely with faculty and staff to strengthen the student experience and ensure alignment with the College’s mission and strategic priorities. Her leadership reflects a clear understanding of the needs of the HGTC community and the role the College plays in supporting workforce and economic development across the region.

“Dr. Batten brings steady leadership, institutional knowledge, and a clear focus on student success,” said HGTC Board Chair, Robert P. Hucks, The Board has full confidence in her ability to guide the College during this transition and maintain our commitment to serving students and our community.”

As Interim President, Dr. Batten will provide leadership across all areas of the College, ensuring continued progress on strategic priorities, operational alignment, and service to students, employees, and community partners.
