HGTC Student Vinh Dinh Wins National Marc Napolitano Memorial Essay Award from Alpha
Beta Gamma
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is pleased to announce Vinh Dinh, a graduating Business Administration student and first-generation college student, has been awarded the prestigious Marc Napolitano Memorial Essay Award by the national chapter of Alpha Beta Gamma (ABG), the international business honor society.
Dinh’s winning essay explored how film and media don't just entertain. They inspire innovation, influence corporate growth strategies, and shape how businesses evolve. His work bridges academic insight with real-world dynamics, showing how storytelling and industry are more deeply connected than we often realize. Dinh will receive a $300 gift and a framed certificate. The award is presented annually to the top essay winner among ABG members nationwide.
HGTC President Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore shared her enthusiasm, stating, “Vinh Dinh exemplifies the values we strive to cultivate at HGTC—academic excellence, leadership, and a deep commitment to community. Winning a national award of this caliber speaks volumes about his talent and work ethic. We are honored to celebrate this milestone with him and look forward to seeing the impact he will make in the world beyond HGTC.”
Dinh has maintained a 3.64 GPA, served as an economics tutor, and contributed extensively to the College and local community. He is set to graduate this May with an associate in applied science in Business Administration and has already been accepted to Boston University and Wofford College, with additional acceptances pending.
Economics Professor Kevin Miller, who co-advises HGTC’s Gamma Zeta chapter of ABG with Professor Peter Yocum, praised Dinh’s contributions, “We are extremely proud of Vinh and his accomplishments. He is a dedicated and passionate student who is caring and thoughtful with his peers. He excels both in the classroom and in the community. He has been an integral part of Alpha Beta Gamma since his induction. As Gamma Zeta’s first national essay winner, he will enjoy an enduring legacy here at HGTC as a model for excellence and a reminder of what can be attained through hard work and perseverance.”
Reflecting on the honor, Dinh expressed heartfelt gratitude for the faculty who helped him succeed, “This wouldn’t have happened without your guidance, feedback, and encouragement. Your support helped me push this essay to a level I didn’t even think was capable. The real win is getting to work with people who believe in students like me.”
Founded in 2023, HGTC’s Gamma Zeta chapter of ABG has already inducted over 70 students and aims to recognize academic excellence, provide meaningful service opportunities, and enrich student life through leadership and learning. Alpha Beta Gamma has over 35,000 members across 140 colleges worldwide.
