HGTC Foundation Partners with Lowcountry Food Bank and HTC to Host “Fresh For All” Food Distribution December 5

The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Foundation, in partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank, will host a Fresh For All food distribution on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the HGTC Grand Strand Campus outside the Foundation Office in Building 300, located at 3639 Pampas Drive, Myrtle Beach.

This no-cost, farmers market-style distribution will provide each participating household with 10 to 20 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. Food will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Community members are encouraged to bring their own bags.

The event is open to HGTC students, faculty and staff, and the general public. Community members may also pick up food for neighbors or loved ones who cannot attend.

The HGTC Foundation recently named HTC, Inc. as the official community partner of the HGTC Pantry, which serves students on all three campuses by providing access to nonperishable food items, hygiene products, and basic necessities. Through this partnership, the Foundation continues its commitment to addressing food insecurity that affects students and families throughout the region.

“We are grateful to partner with the Lowcountry Food Bank to bring fresh, healthy food directly to our Grand Strand Campus. This ‘Fresh For All’ event helps ensure that our students and community members have the support they need, not only in the classroom but also in their daily lives. Fresh For All brings healthy produce to families who may otherwise go without, and access to nutritious food is essential to a student’s ability to learn, focus, and thrive. Together, we are strengthening access to vital resources for students and neighbors across the region. This outreach is a powerful example of how community partnerships can change lives,” said HGTC Foundation President and CEO, Shannon Detzler.

Fresh For All events empower neighbors by offering a variety of fresh produce choices at no cost, along with recipes and educational handouts provided by the Lowcountry Food Bank to help households select, store, and prepare nutritious foods.

Food insecurity remains a significant challenge across South Carolina. More than 41,000 residents in Horry County alone struggle to access affordable, nutritious food. Many factors, including transportation barriers, lower incomes, and limited grocery access, contribute to this need. Fresh For All distributions bring nutritious foods directly to underserved communities, creating more equitable access to healthy options.

In 2024, the Lowcountry Food Bank distributed more than 2 million pounds of produce through 121 Fresh For All events and partner agency-run Fresh Expresses.

The HGTC Foundation plans to continue hosting these markets quarterly, with the potential to expand to monthly distributions based on community response.
