Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce a new transfer agreement with the College of Charleston designed to create a seamless pathway for nursing students to advance their education and careers in healthcare.

Through this partnership, HGTC students who complete the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing will be eligible to transfer directly into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) program at the College of Charleston. HGTC students graduating in December will be eligible to begin the program in Spring 2025, marking an exciting milestone in the collaboration between the two institutions to strengthen South Carolina’s healthcare workforce.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to preparing highly skilled healthcare professionals who will make an immediate impact across the state,” said Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore, President of HGTC. “By building clear pathways from the associate to the bachelor’s level, we are helping our students achieve their educational goals while meeting the workforce needs of our hospitals, clinics, and healthcare systems.”

Ann Daniels, Assistant Vice President & Dean of the Schools of Nursing, Patient and Emergency Care, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, “We are excited to offer our students this opportunity to continue their education and advancement of career development with an institution that has been a leader in higher education.”

Dr. Samantha Oldroyd, Assistant Vice President & Dean of the School of Health Sciences, added, “This partnership will allow our graduates to obtain additional knowledge and leadership skills to contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce needed in our healthcare fields.”

The agreement, signed on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, during a ceremony at HGTC’s Nursing and Health Sciences Institute on the Grand Strand Campus, also lays the foundation for future transfer opportunities in other health-related fields. These include pathways for HGTC’s Physical Therapist Assistant graduates to explore transfer options into the College of Charleston’s Health Services Administration and Management program.

Representatives from both institutions will review the agreement annually to ensure continued alignment with academic standards and workforce needs.
