HGTC Employees Support Colleague Through Blue Jeans Week Fundraiser for Employee Hardship Fund

(Conway, SC) 11/26/2024

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) employees participated in a special Blue Jeans Week fundraiser October 28 through November 1, raising significant contributions for the Employee Hardship Fund to support a colleague in need. This initiative highlights the College’s strong sense of community and dedication to mutual support, as employees come together to lend a helping hand during challenging times.

“Our faculty and staff are the heart of our College,” said Dr. Marilyn “Murph” Fore, President of HGTC. “When we come together to help one another, we demonstrate what it means to be a compassionate community. Through contributions to our Employee Hardship Fund, we’re making sure no one faces their difficulties alone.”

The Employee Hardship Fund exists to support HGTC employees in times of unforeseen financial difficulty, from medical emergencies to other personal hardships. This Blue Jeans Week is one of many ways HGTC ensures its employees are supported by a network of peers who care. Employees were encouraged to donate through a convenient online portal, allowing easy access to the Employee Hardship Fund.

“We are grateful to everyone who participated,” said Jackie Snyder, HGTC’s Vice President of Human Resources and Employee Relations.  “When we contribute to the Employee Hardship Fund, we’re investing in our community, showing that each of us is ready to support a colleague when life takes unexpected turns. It’s a reminder that our workplace values go beyond our daily tasks to include care for each other.”

The fundraiser comes alongside uplifting news regarding a beloved HGTC faculty member who recently received a successful kidney transplant, thanks to a matching donor. This heartfelt story of resilience and community support highlights the power of kindness within the HGTC family.

Leila Rogers, Professor of Sociology and Phi Theta Kappa Advisor, shared her gratitude,
"I want to thank everyone for their prayers and positive vibes for my hope to get a kidney. After a week post-transplant, I am doing remarkably well! The new kidney is kicking! I also want to thank all of you who may have reached out to MUSC to be tested on my behalf. It means more than you will ever know. I was fortunate to find a living donor match quickly, and it could have been one of you! Thanks to everyone for your support and well wishes!”

This powerful display of unity and compassion is a testament to the strong bonds among HGTC’s faculty and staff, reinforcing that each contribution truly makes a difference.
