Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce Civil Engineering Students competed in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Carolinas Conference Symposium at The Citadel April 13-15, 2023. Participating schools included The Citadel, Clemson University, Duke University, HGTC, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and the University of South Carolina.  South Carolina State University was also in the ASCE Carolinas Conference but was not in attendance.

HGTC, the only two-year school in the Carolinas Conference, won 3rd Place in the Surveying Competition. Led by Babatunde Alo, HGTC Professor of Civil Engineering, the surveying team consisted of Laurel McCall, John Huemmer, Anders Lemire, Gwen White, Jessica Jeske, and Neeraj Chander.

Led by David D. Lewis, HGTC Professor of Engineering, HGTC’s team won 3rd Place in the Lightest Bridge Competition. Team members included Grainger Britt, Joseph Cordon, Jesus Navarrette, Joao Vieira, and Gwen White.

“HGTC is proud of our engineering program and the outstanding results of the ASCE Carolinas Conference especially considering we were the only two-year college competing,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “This is a testament to the success of our program as compared to four-year universities in our state.”
