HGTC Workforce Training Scholarships Available in Critical Areas

(Conway, SC) 01/28/2021

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) announced today that scholarships are available now for high-demand, short-term, non-credit workforce training programs utilizing the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) discretionary fund. On January 5, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced that $8 million of the $19.9 million in emergency CARES Act funding will support education for institutions in the SC Technical College System that provide targeted job training.

“The demand for non-credit, continuing education programs has increased in our state due to the pandemic,” said HGTC President, Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore. “HGTC will use these funds for scholarships to address essential training needs designed to get people back on their feet with the skills necessary for high-demand fields.”

As a result, HGTC will provide several non-credit certification courses that will be available within 30 days at little or no cost for South Carolina residents over the age of 18. The scholarships will cover attendance fees and other required course-related materials and assessments for students in identified high-demand, continuing education programs. The programs have high placement rates, are typically 16 weeks or less in length, and lead to an industry recognized credential and/or certificate.
