HGTC, SC Virtual School Partnership for Dual Enrollment

HGTC signs agreement with SC Virtual Charter School for Junior and Senior Students to take Advantage of Dual Enrollment Programs at HGTC.

(Conway, SC) 07/06/2020

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) and South Carolina Virtual Charter School (SCVCS) recently signed an agreement to encourage SCVCS qualifying junior and senior students to take advantage of dual enrollment opportunities at HGTC. Students can enroll in HGTC college courses via online delivery or in-person classes at one of the three HGTC campus locations.

“HGTC is thrilled about this new partnership with the SC Virtual Charter School for their junior and senior students to get a head start on college,” said Dr. Jennifer Wilbanks, HGTC Executive Vice President of Academics. “The dual enrollment program enables qualified students to take advantage of coursework that can be counted on both their high school and college transcripts.”

“I am so pleased with this new partnership for high school students,” said HGTC President, Dr. Marilyn M. Fore. “It’s the perfect opportunity for our local high school students, who want to remain in our community, to begin with us. These agreements not only benefit our students but also our entire area.”

Dual enrollment courses become part of the student’s high school and college transcripts and count toward the student’s high school GPA and class rank, as well as his/her continuing GPA for the purposes of state scholarship renewal and financial aid eligibility. SC Lottery Tuition Assistance is available to students who qualify and will be applied directly to eligible students’ accounts at the beginning of each semester.

The partnership smooths the transition for high school students to work toward a college education and provides substantial cost savings along the way.

The agreement was been officially signed by both Dr. Jennifer Wilbanks, HGTC Executive Vice President of Academics and Anita Latham, SCVCS Asst. Executive Director, High School Principal.

Fall classes at HGTC begin August 24, and financial aid and scholarships are readily available.
