HGTC, USC Partnership for Teacher Education
HGTC and USC officially sign agreement allowing teacher education students to seamlessly transition and successfully transfer for the completion of a four-year degree.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) and the University of South Carolina (USC) recently signed an articulation agreement between the colleges establishing a teacher education transfer agreement. After completing the two-year degree at HGTC, aspiring teachers will be able to transfer to USC to earn a bachelor’s degree from the College of Education in just two years.
The Tech2Teach program, housed within the College of Education at USC, is a pathway to teach program helping technical college students transfer to USC and become teachers. The partnership smooths the transition for education students and provides substantial cost savings along the way. All credits earned at HGTC will transfer to USC. Students who fulfill all other requirements for enrollment at USC will be able to complete one of the following programs: early childhood education, elementary education, or middle level education.
“The partnership between HGTC and USC is designed to increase the higher education opportunities for HGTC graduates of our Associate in Applied Science in Teacher Education program. It’s also another effort to combat the teacher shortage in our local area and state,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “Flexible options will be offered to assist students, including a three-year accelerated cohort option as well as online courses to accommodate busy schedules.”

in Horry and Georgetown counties and surrounding communities,” said Jon E. Pedersen,
Dean UofSC College of Education. “We are focused on building our partnership with
our colleagues at HGTC in order to provide access, eligibility and affordability for
students and provide a seamless transition to UofSC College of Education and completion
of their teacher education programs.”
The agreement has been officially signed by USC and HGTC.
The program is available now with financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
