HGTC Recognized as 11th in Nation at 2020 Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition

HGTC Students Finish as #1 Two-Year School in Golf & Sports Turf Management.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud of the way Golf and Sports Turf Management (GSTM) students represented the College in the 2020 Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition held in Orlando. The HGTC Turf Bowl Team named the “Fighting Mole Crickets” were champions of the 2019 Carolinas Turf Bowl Championship at the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association (CGCSA) Conference and Show and represented the College on the national level.

Professors Charles Granger, George McCauley, and Ashley Wilkinson prepared the “Fighting Mole Crickets” team to place 11th out of 53 teams and the first place two-year school in the competition. It’s important to note that the HGTC Turf Bowl Team only missed the top ten by one point to tie Virginia Tech University. The team consisted of four GSTM students including Mark Harrison, Alex Zaner, Harry Robishaw, Adam Galigher.

“The outstanding national standings produced by this team are due to the dedication and hard work from our students and professors as they spent their time preparing for the competition,” said Charles Granger, HGTC Professor and Chair of Golf & Sports Turf Management. “Our Golf and Sports Turf Management students represent their field as some of the best and brightest of our institution.”

“HGTC is proud of its students and professors especially against more than 50 other schools across the nation,” said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. “We may be underestimated at times but, HGTC has proven to be the top two-year school in Golf and Sports Turf Management and the record solidifies our success.”
