HGTC Receives Continuing Accreditation for Nursing Program

Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing Grants Successful Completion to HGTC.

(Conway, SC) 04/27/2020

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) proudly announced today that the College’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Practical Nursing (PN) program have been granted continuing accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).  The HGTC administration and nursing department completed a self-review and submitted a self-study report to ACEN in spring 2019.  The report was accepted and a three-day site visit by ACEN representatives was successfully completed in September 2019.  A decision was determined by ACEN at its Board of Commissioners meeting held in March 2020 and a formal letter of notification was received by HGTC last week.  The next evaluation visit is planned for fall 2027.

“This is good news that has a real impact on our workforce and our expanding healthcare training,” said Dr. Marilyn M. Fore, HGTC President.  “Congratulations to the nursing leadership and faculty.”

The ACEN is recognized by both the USDE and CHEA to accredit nursing education programs and schools, both postsecondary and higher degree, which offer either a certificate, diploma, or recognized professional degree (clinical doctorate, master’s, baccalaureate, associate, diploma, and practical nursing) in the United States, its territories, and internationally, including those offered via distance education. Accreditation is a peer-review, self-regulatory process by which non-governmental associations recognize educational institutions or programs found to meet or exceed standards and criteria for educational quality.

“Congratulations on this outstanding achievement,” said Marsal P. Stoll, ACEN Chief Executive Officer.  “On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, we thank you and your colleagues for your commitment to quality nursing education. We look forward to continued successes for HGTC’s nursing program.”
