HGTC Welding Students Compete in State Welding Skills Competition

Students placed among 10 colleges, 52 students

HGTC Welding Students(CONWAY, SC) May 10, 2018 - Three welding students from Horry-Georgetown Technical College travelled to Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter to compete in the Annual Welding Skills Competition held on April 18 and 19, 2018. Ten technical colleges throughout the state were in attendance and 52 students competed.

The HGTC students competed and placed in three categories:

  • Codie Barnhill - 1st place, SMAW pipe welding
  • Dustin Richardson - 5th place, SMAW Vee groove plate
  • Kyle Jordan - 9th place, SMAW Tee joint

"These students represented HGTC very well at this competition,” said Associate Dean Brandon Haselden. “They demonstrated skillsets learned in the advanced welding technology program and will continue to be successful as they pursue a career in the field.”
