HGTC Launches Diesel Engine, Outboard Marine Technology Programs
Programs designed to meet local industry demands
(CONWAY, SC) July 17, 2018 - Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is now accepting applications for its new diesel engine technology and outboard marine technology programs. These certificate programs were created in response to significant local industry needs for a skilled workforce in these areas. Full scholarships are available on a first come, first serve basis through the Carolina Workforce Path Scholarship.
“We have seen a real shortage of skilled mechanics in Horry and Georgetown Counties,” said HGTC Associate Dean Brandon Haselden. “With these new programs, we hope to provide our local employers with the skilled workers they need while giving our students the training necessary for them to succeed in their new careers.”
The Diesel Engine Technology I and Outboard Marine Technology I certificate programs begin August 27th and classes will be held Monday through Thursday on HGTC’s Conway campus. The hands-on programs will run one semester and provide training in service, diagnostics, repair, and more. Yamaha is sponsoring the outboard marine technology program, and students will receive a Yamaha credential once they pass the competencies of the course.
Diesel Engine Technology II and Outboard Marine Technology II will be offered in Spring 2019.
