(FLORENCE) June 22, 2017 – On Monday, President Marilyn Fore spoke at a symposium hosted by Congressman Tom Rice, titled “Build Them and They Will Come.” The symposium took place at Florence Darlington Technical College and focused on local leaders’ efforts to bolster the region’s economy.

President Fore’s presentation focused on the role Horry-Georgetown Technical College plays in developing the Grand Strand’s skilled workforce. She highlighted the region’s top areas of economic growth – advanced manufacturing, healthcare and culinary and hospitality.

“HGTC continues to train our local workforce through new state-of-the-art facilities and technology,” President Fore said. “We are constantly adapting to meet the demands of our local industry by adding degree and certificate programs that adequately prepare our students for a successful career in their industries."

HGTC employs 832 people, has an annual budget of $43 million and makes an estimated $150 million economic impact annually in South Carolina. With over 65 degree programs, HGTC’s in-state tuition is the second lowest in the SC Technical College System and it is the fourth largest technical college in the state.

HGTC offers college transfer and skilled associate degree programs in more than 65 fields of study. Nearly all programs feature internships that lead to jobs. Ninety-five percent of students either transfer to earn advanced degrees or start careers in their respective fields of study.
