State Licensure | Certification Disclosure
Professional Licensure Programs:
Horry-Georgetown Technical College Professional Licensure Programs are designed for, and advertised as, preparing students for a career in a licensed profession upon completion of the program. A licensed profession generally requires a professional license or certification to be obtained in order to be employed in the profession. If you are considering one of the professional license programs listed below, and plan to work outside the state of South Carolina, please select the program link for more information regarding educational requirements for professional licensure in the US states and territories.
What is Professional Licensure Disclosure?
Federal regulations require all higher education institutions offering academic programs designed for, and advertised as, fulfilling professional licensure or certification requirements to inform prospective and enrolled students about whether program completion aligns with state licensure or certification criteria for employment. Horry-Georgetown Technical College adheres to U.S. Federal Regulation §668.43, and State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), by disclosing educational requirements for licensure or certification in its programs intended for professional licensure or certification.
Students should be aware, beyond the completion of a program's educational requirements for licensure, there may be additional state-level exams, physical exams, background checks, years of experience or other local requirements for licensure or certification. Students should contact specific professional licensing boards for the state in which they wish to work to learn about licensing or certification requirements.
Student Location Determination:
For the purposes of state licensure disclosure, the student’s location is determined at the time of admission into the program. Relocation to another state during enrollment can affect a student's eligibility for in-state tuition, ability to become licensed, and/or financial aid. Students should contact their Program Coordinator, prior to relocating out of state, to discuss authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.
Students located outside the state of South Carolina may not enroll in a Professional Licensure Program if the program has been designated as "does not meet" requirements for the state in which the student is located or plans to seek employment upon program completion.
Importance Notice:
The professional licensure disclosure information provided was compiled through a reasonable, good faith effort to determine if HGTC's programs meet or do not meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification in states other than South Carolina. If you are planning to pursue professional licensure or certification in a state other than South Carolina, the College strongly encourages you to contact the appropriate licensing board in the state in which you wish to practice for specific information and guidance regarding licensure or certification.
