Weapons Policy

No person, except a sworn law enforcement officer in full duty uniform, shall possess a firearm of any kind on any premises, property and/or property immediately adjacent to and owned, operated, or controlled by Horry Georgetown Technical College, including grounds and parking lots of the College or a College sponsored event. South Carolina Code of Laws Section 16-23-420 (a), provides that these statutory provisions do not apply to a person who is authorized to carry a concealed weapon, pursuant to “The Law Abiding Citizens for Self Defense Act of 1996 when the weapon remains inside an attended or locked motor vehicles and is secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed trunk or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle. Weapons/firearms legally secured in personal vehicles must not be removed from the vehicles while on College grounds. Violation of these provisions may result in criminal prosecution and/or College disciplinary action, including expulsion.
