  Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two-year community/technical college that offers more than 80 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor's degree.

HSM - Homeland Security Management

HSM 103 Intro. to Emergency Management (3)

This course is a study of techniques used to establish and maintain an emergency management system in the public sector. The four functions of emergency management are introduced (i.e., mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery) and students will explore the emergency manager's role in each.

HSM 105 Sociology of Disaster (3)

This course covers sociological disaster research, systems, and alternative approaches. Topics include human behavior, organizational responses, long-term community impacts, disaster warnings, and evacuations. Students will learn to assess and predict disaster-related human behavior impacts.

HSM 201 Critical Incident Management (3)

This course explores the management and leadership principles necessary for the successful resolution of critical incidents. The National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System will be examined to provide an all hazard, interdisciplinary approach to critical incident management.

HSM 210 Recovery & Mitigation (3)

This course covers techniques to mitigate and recover from natural, technological, and manmade disasters. Topics include hazard mapping, design, financial incentives, insurance, structural controls, and planning. Students will learn to develop effective mitigation and recovery plans.
