Mayor Barbara Blain-Bellamy presents Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President, with the 2023 Woman of the Year Award at the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. 

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) proudly announces its esteemed President, Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, has been recognized as the Woman of the Year for 2023 by the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce. This prestigious accolade celebrates Dr. Fore's unwavering commitment to education, her visionary leadership, and her profound contributions to both HGTC and the broader community.

Dr. Fore's dedicated leadership has transformed education in the region by enhancing accessibility and aligning HGTC with the evolving needs of local businesses and industries. Under her guidance, HGTC has simplified admissions requirements and streamlined the approval process for new academic programs, making higher education more attainable for countless individuals. 

Among Dr. Fore's remarkable achievements is her instrumental role in pioneering digital classrooms, revolutionizing the learning experience for HGTC students. She has been a driving force behind the development of over 80 programs of study, addressing a wide range of educational and vocational needs within the community.

Beyond the college, Dr. Fore has generously shared her expertise by serving on more than 30 accreditation teams throughout the Southeast, contributing to the growth and excellence of educational institutions across the region. Her vision and leadership were instrumental in the creation of the nationally recognized Horry County Schools Early College High School.

Dr. Fore's academic achievements are equally noteworthy, as she holds an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from Coastal Carolina University, along with an Education Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Arts in Economics, and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration all from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, West Virginia.

Her educational background reflects her unwavering commitment to lifelong learning and her ability to inspire others to do the same.

Moreover, Dr. Fore's late husband, Dr. Fred Fore, was the first president of Florence-Darlington Technical College, highlighting her family's enduring legacy of educational leadership and service to the community.
