Work Ready Communities
South Carolina’s Certified Work Ready Communities Initiative aims to ensure the growth of SC communities by creating an environment conducive to business and workforce development.
The Work Ready Community initiative enables community leaders to rally behind the concept of a ready-to work workforce. Mayors, council members, superintendents, principals, teachers and business leaders cheerlead this effort, creating a team approach to workforce development. The motivation for their engagement will be the achievement of being recognized as a Work Ready Community.
WorkReady South Carolina is a new program to help employers take the guesswork out of hiring new employees. WorkReady SC uses the WIN assessment to provide employers with a snapshot of a prospective employee’s skills in three areas.
These assessments are proctored tests that measure the communication and problem-solving skills that are required for 85 percent of all jobs today ranging from entry-level to professional positions. The jobseeker takes the (1) Applied Mathematics, (2) Reading for Information, and (3) Locating Information assessment as part of WIN. This allows employers to better match prospective employees with positions available within their companies/businesses.
Any business operating in South Carolina and any SC resident can participate in the
WorkReady SC initiative. As a business, supporting a stronger workforce is easy.
All you need to do is:
- Recognize the NCRC when applicants present one
- Recommend the NCRC for applicants and/or existing employees
- Require the NCRC, if your company has completed a job profile
