Meet the Student Ambassadors of HGTC

Horry-Georgetown Technical College

Our college representatives, better known as our Student Ambassadors, play a vital role in assisting our student engagement division. These students span across nine different majors with career paths equally as diverse. These students have a passion for not only bettering themselves, but bettering their fellow students, future students, and the community of HGTC.

These are the selected Student Ambassadors of HGTC for the 2014-2015 school year. These students serve as tour guides, event volunteers, and as a resource for students on campus.

“I am from Madison, North Carolina and moved to Myrtle Beach a few years ago. I love living here! I believe it is important to treat others as you would want to be treated. I chose HGTC because of the Human Services Program, the public safety that is provided to students and the scenery because the campus is beautiful.Being a Student Ambassador allows me to network, promote student engagement, and to make future students aware of how great HGTC is.

"I have earned an Associate's Degree in Administrative Office Technology and now I am working on my General Business Degree. I have really enjoyed my college experience. Meet Oliver Grant:

"I chose HGTC for many reasons. Like many other adults, I am very busy; HGTC provides me with the flexibility to further my education without causing any interference with my work. I am currently studying an Associates in Arts because I plan on transferring to a 4-year college to pursue my Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

I chose to become a student ambassador because I am truly proud to be a student at HGTC, and nothing gives me greater joy than to be a representative for this college.

My future goals are to obtain my CPA from the State of South Carolina and work for an Accounting firm."

Oliver's favorite quote: "Stay far from timid, only make moves when your heart is in it, and live the phrase the sky's the limit"

Meet Laura Wilkes:

"I am currently enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach at HGTC. I relocated to South Carolina in 2013 with my family after retiring from 26 years in the Air Force. The culinary program offers me the opportunity to combine my love for food and cooking with the challenge of exploring a second career. HGTC was the best fit for me based on the small class sizes, student to professor ratios, transfer credits, and the expansion of the Culinary program.

I  hope that during my time as a student ambassador I can change the misconceptions about 2-year colleges. I look forward to the opportunity to showcase the outstanding technical, professional, and university transfer programs that are available at HGTC.

After graduation, I plan to use the skills that I have obtained to start a meal delivery services that provides home cooked, ready-to-eat meals."

I am an out-going person who loves to simply have fun.

I chose HGTC because I felt as if they gave me a second chance to be somebody. So I took that chance and now I am one of the faces of this great school.  I wanted to become a Student Ambassador because I want to make a difference. I want the chance to give someone else a fresh start.
