The Machine Tool Operations program will prepare students to enter the exciting field of modern machine technology by providing them with the skills to run a machine shop and to operate specialized equipment. HGTC’s Machine Tool Operations program was developed in response to regional employers who have expressed a demand for skilled employees with solid training in this specialized field.  Certificate program courses will apply to proposed associate degree program requirements.

Career Outlook

Demand for machine operators and other machinist positions is currently high at Boeing and other aerospace suppliers.  Entry-level salaries range from $25,000 to $40,000. Graduates can work in small job shops, large manufacturers, public institutions, and governmental agencies as operators, set-up technicians, machining technicians, CNC machine programmers, CAD/CAM programmers, tool and die makers, machine and tool sales, and shop owners.
