Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management (Pending) - Associate in Applied Science Degree

Horry Georgetown Technical College is planning to offer a new Associate in Applied Science degree program in Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management pending approval. If approved by the South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education and SACSCOC, this will be the only associate degree program in Brewing in the SC Technical College System. Students interested in this program may enroll now in General Education and related courses in preparation for the approved major and courses.
The Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management curriculum is designed to prepare individuals for the various careers in the expanding brewery, microbrewery and brewpub industries. Graduates will be prepared for employment opportunities in brewing, distillation and fermentation production, quality control lab technician, beer tending, beverage marketing and related industries. Graduates may also transfer to senior institutions in pursuit of baccalaureate degrees in areas such as facility management, tourism management, destination marketing and event management.
Positive indicators for employment include several developments to the brewing industry in Myrtle Beach, the surrounding areas and the state. Recently several high quality breweries and brew pubs have emerged; numerous large craft brewing companies are being recruited by state and local economic developers, and across South Carolina, more craft breweries, distributors, and brew pubs have opened. County wide interest in craft brewing is expressed by the general population, tourists and business leaders.
