“The Stars Are Aligned” for HGTC Golf and Sports Turf Students
Three celebrities in the American golf industry met with golf and sports turf students at Horry Georgetown Technical College recently to discuss the state
of the industry. Brad Klein, senior writer for Golfweek magazine; Craig Currier, superintendent
at Glen Oaks on Long Island; and Steve Rabideau, of Winged Foot Golf Club in New York,
spoke about their careers, the golf industry and the future of the sport.
Currier and Rabideau are widely recognized for maintaining meticulous courses, and have hosted US Open Championships. “For students who aspire to become stars in the golf industry, this was a unique opportunity to meet with these three accomplished professionals,” said Prof. Rick McGuinnes, chair of the HGTC Golf and Sports Turf program. “The stars were aligned to get this group to campus.” McGuinnes recruited the team to come inspire students, who gathered in Burroughs & Chapin Auditorium on the HGTC Conway Campus to ask questions and seek career advice.
HGTC Golf and Sport Turf students have historically performed well in national competitions and many are now interviewing for jobs and internships at courses across America.
