Congratulations Graduates!

More than 1100 Horry Georgetown Technical College seniors have applied for spring graduation and about 425 of those are expected to march in commencement ceremonies at 7 p.m., Mon., May 7, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

HGTC Senior Vice-President Marilyn Fore said the largest number, 268, will earn associate degrees and certificates in health related programs, from emergency medical technology to nursing, radiology to phlebotomy. Fifty-seven will graduate in industrial trades and engineering technology, and many graduates will pursue bachelor degrees at senior colleges.

“This is a time to celebrate success on all levels,” Fore said. “We’ll recognize students, faculty and staff who have sacrificed time and effort for a better future.” Eighty percent of HGTC graduates will be from Horry and Georgetown Counties. Ten percent live in other Palmetto State counties, and ten percent are from other states.

Commencement speaker will be General Walter F. Johnson, III (retired), chairman of Eagle Group International, a company Johnson started after retiring as the first African-American and youngest person ever to serve as chief of the U.S. Medical Service Corps.
