About the Foundation

The Horry-Georgetown Technical College Foundation (HGTC Foundation) was incorporated in 1978 and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service and the South Carolina Tax Commission as a Tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The purpose of the HGTC Foundation is to raise, invest, manage and disburse funds in support of the students, faculty, programs, staff, and activities of Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Although student enrollment continues to increase in the College's Associate Degree and Workforce Development programs of study, State funding of the College continues to decline, to the point where that funding stands at 1997 levels, despite an enrollment increase of more than 4000 students since that time. Helping to fill that funding gap is a major part of the Foundation mission.

Most four-year colleges can overcome such funding gaps by simply raising tuition on their out-of-state students. However, more than 90 percent of Horry-Georgetown Technical College students live and work right here at home, and their financial circumstances are generally such that a $50-$100 tuition increase per semester could force many to have to postpone their pursuit of higher education or abandon it altogether. Not only would that scenario harm families, it also would harm the stability of the Horry Georgetown community's skilled workforce and economy.

No other institution of higher education in the Horry Georgetown community provides the sheer number of trained skilled employees for our local workforce than does Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Thus, the Foundation's role in helping to close the funding gap is critical to the area's success.

The HGTC Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of a distinctive group of community leaders that includes corporate executives, bankers, attorneys, investment counselors, manufacturers, distinguished citizens, experienced retired persons and more. (A listing of our Board Members is available on this website.)

Uniquely, each HGTC Foundation Board Member is also a donor to the HGTC Foundation, underscoring each member's personal commitment to supporting the College's positive mission of providing affordable, quality higher education opportunities to Horry and Georgetown County residents.

The HGTC Foundation offers a wide variety of monetary and non-monetary ways in which to help the College accommodate student growth, support new and developing academic programs, and to otherwise enhance student educational opportunities.

HGTC Foundation offices are maintained in Building 300 on the Grand Strand Campus of Horry-Georgetown Technical College, which is located near the Market Common on the redeveloped Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.

The Foundation's mailing address is 743 Hemlock Avenue, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
